Get out the Gelatos! These easy-to-use pigment sticks of color are great to use with stencils. This technique gives you precise patterns from your stencils, but with a soft, gentle effect that’s ideal for backgrounds. Here I’ve stenciled the honeycomb design, then stamped on top with bubble wrap (and Gelatos) to create a mottled look.

Stenciling with Gelatos: What you need—

Eclectica ESN05 stamp set (Paper Artsy)

Faber-Castell Gelatos: Mango, Tangerine, Red Cherry

Mini Honeycomb stencil (The Crafter’s Workshop)

• Manila tag

• White, cream, tan, red cardstock

• Water spritzer

• Brown inkpad

• Craft sheet

• Baby wipes

• 7/8″ circle punch

• Bubble wrap

• Key, twine, embroidery thread, ribbon

Stenciling with Gelatos: How to do it—

1. Place your stencil on your paper. You can secure it with tape, or simply hold it in place.

2. Scribble Gelato colors onto your craft sheet. I used Mango, Tangerine and Red Cherry.

3. Swipe a damp baby wipe into your color and apply through the stencil, using a circular motion. Start with your lightest color.

4. Scribble Red Cherry onto your craft sheet. Spritz with water and blend onto the craft sheet with a paintbrush or your finger. Press bubble wrap bubble-side down into the color. Lift and stamp on the stenciled piece. Glue to a manila tag, trimming the edges even with the sides of the tag.

5.  Mount the “time” stamp on a clear block and spritz lightly with water. Apply Tangerine Gelato directly to the stamp. Spritz lightly again and stamp on cream cardstock. Clean the stamp, then stamp on top of it again, slightly offset, with brown ink. Stamp “forgotten” at the bottom in brown ink.

6. Mat the “time” piece on tan cardstock and add to the tag. Stamp the postmark with Red Cherry on cream card, punch with a 7/8” circle punch. Add a gold brad and adhere with foam tape. Tie the tag with ribbon, twine and gold embroidery thread, accented with a gold key. Tear a piece of red card and add to the bottom of the tag.
