Photo Friday: Old Polish House

Sara Naumann blog photo friday old house

This house is on a side street between my house and the grocery store, so I frequently pass by. It’s huge, as you can see, and a bit run-down, but there’s something about the lines and details in this old house that just capture my imagination. See the patches on the outer walls? What was there, one hundred years ago? And that whitish space under the balcony…was that a door leading to the garden? Oh, the stories these houses could tell.

Like many old houses in this neighborhood, this one is occupied but a bit neglected—there’s just not enough money; it makes me wistful, these aging beauties, sometimes with cracked windows and sometimes decorated with brilliantly colored gardens.

  1. I also love old, old homes. There are several old plantation style homes near my home in Alabama ~ one dating back to 1813. The folks that own it have never opened it to visitors as have some of the other old homes around here. I have always wondered about its history and the people that lived there.
I think the whitish spot under the balcony was a door. If it was over here it would have been a door ~ it seems they always put a door under the balconies ~ but then 200 hundred yrs ago fire was such a huge danger.
Love your blog and have enjoyed visiting it.

  2. I thought it might be a door as well and never thought about the fire danger! It’s amazing the stories these old houses could tell, isn’t it? Thanks for visiting my blog!
