{Project} Wednesday: Distress Oxide Inks “Us” Card

Happy Wednesday!

Distress oxide ink card

Today I want to share a quick and easy card featuring the new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inkpads. These inks are unique in that they are a hybrid of pigment ink and dye ink. This gives them some unique properties that you just can’t get with other inkpads. The finished result is a pearly, chalky finish that won’t rub off on your hands.

One thing I love about them: They’re opaque like a pigment inkpad (which means they look great on dark cardstock) but quick-drying like a dye ink. And because the inks are Distress, they’re also water reactive. One more thing? They stamp much more crisply than the original Distress inks.

Us Distress Oxide Ink Card, what you need—

Distress Oxide Inks: Faded Jeans, Fossilized Amber, Worn Lipstick (Ranger)

• Stamps: Express Yourself, Layered Hearts (WOW Embossing)

• 5/8″ circle punch

• Water mister

Jet Black Archival inkpad (Ranger)

• Cardstock: Gray, white, pink

• Blank white card

• Craft sheet

• Small paintbrush

• Foam tape

• Black cord

Us Distress Oxide Ink Card, how to make it—

  1. Place a 5″x6″ piece of gray cardstock onto the craft sheet. Press and drag a stripe of Fossilized Amber ink directly from the top to the bottom in the center of the piece. Repeat to drag Faded Jeans on the right side of the yellow stripe, and Worn Lipstick on the left.
  2. Create a small puddle of water on the craft sheet. Load the brush with water and flick onto the inky cardstock to create spatters.
  3. Let dry, then trim to size. Mat on white, then pink cardstock, then glue to the card front.
  4. Use Worn Lipstick to stamp three hearts on white cardstock. Cut out and glue two to the card front. Adhere the third with foam tape.
  5. Use black ink to stamp “us” on white cardstock and circle-punch, then glue tucked slightly under one heart.
  6. Tie a bow in black cord and glue as shown.

Enjoy—and happy Wednesday!
