{Project} Wednesday: Double Embossed Cardmaking Technique

Today on Studio SN: Double Embossed Cardmaking Technique with WOW!

Yes—WOW! Wow because this is such a fun and easy heat embossing technique…and also because I’m using embossing powders from the lovely folks at WOW Embossing Powders.

how to do heat embossing on handmade cards

This heat embossing technique is super easy and a great way to create a colorful textured background for your handmade cards. It’s perfect for combining different embossing powder colors, too.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– Metalline Red, Opaque Pastel Blue embossing powders (WOW Embossing Powders) UK peeps, you can visit the WOW UK home page for info; US and Canadians, try the US site.

– Embossing inkpad (Versamark or other)

– Glossy white cardstock, matte white cardstock, black cardstock

– Heat tool

– Express Yourself stamps (WOW Embossing Powders)

– Black inkpad, black pen

– Blue silk flowers, brad, foam tape

– Black pen, red colored pencil, mini price tag

Here’s how to do it:

1. Press the embossing inkpad onto a piece of glossy white cardstock, covering it completely. Sprinkle with Metalline Red embossing powder, tap off excess and heat-set.

2. When cool, brayer over it lightly with embossing ink, then apply Pastel Blue embossing powder. Tap off excess, then heat-set. Let cool.

3. Ink the edges with black. Mat on white matte card, tearing the bottom edge. Stamp “love you” at the bottom right. Glue to the front of a black card base.

4. Insert a white brad in the center of two stacked flowers. Draw a heart with black pen on the mini tag, then color with red. Wrap around the brad in the flower and add a bit of baker’s twine. Glue to the card front, popping the mini tag up on foam tape.

And you’re done! Such a fun and easy heat embossing technique, and one that you can adapt depending on the color combinations you choose.
