{Project} Wednesday: Hunkydory Floral Matchbox

You know I’ve been obsessing about matchboxes lately…well, here’s one beautiful floral design that’s quick and easy to make, and would be perfect for sharing a small gift or note with someone special.

These matchboxes are larger than the standard kind—they measure 11cm x 6.3cm—and minus the “strike”. They’re ideal for decorating with your favorite patterned papers and card making embellishments. At 2cm deep, there’s enough room for a pop-up or fold-out message, too.

One tip:  I recommend using a strong double-sided adhesive to adhere the cardstock to the box, especially with heavier-weight cardstock like the foiled kraft card.

Hunkydory Floral Matchbox, what you need—

Matchboxes (Paper Patch from Rico Design)

Florabunda Paper Pad (Hunkydory)

Florabunda Luxury Card Collection (Hunkydory)

Metallic gold card

Gold embroidery thread

Foam tape

Pearls

Hunkydory Floral Matchbox, how to make it—

Remove the inside of the box and set aside.

Cut a 10cm-wide strip of foiled flowers kraft cardstock. Secure one short end to the back of the box, then carefully wrap around the box. I find it helps to run a bone folder along each edge of the box to create a crease. Glue each side as you go.

Cut a piece of pink check card slightly smaller than the box top. Mount on gold, then wrap the top and bottom with the die-cut border. Wrap with gold embroidery thread, then glue to the box top.

Place gold thread behind the tag. Use foam tape to adhere to the box top. Add a pearl and another small flower die cut. Add the flower and leaf embellishment at the top of the box. Add a pearl in the flower center.

For the inside: Line the inside bottom of the box with check paper. Glue the flower ad leaf inside. Tie a bow in gold thread and add to the flower.
