Technique of the Month: Pearlescent Stamping

This month on Studio SN: Stamping with Pearlescent Embossing Powders!

How to use pearlescent embossing powders

If you’ve seen pearlescent embossing powders in your local store or online, you might have been a bit curious—if it’s labeled “Red Pearlescent” then why is it white? Just like the Orange Pearlescent and Green Pearlescent? As with most embossing techniques, the magic happens when the heat tool comes out! That’s when that white pearlescent powder transforms into a pretty pearly color, perfect for use on black and dark cardstock.

Stamping with Pearlescent Embossing Powders, what you need—

• Red Pearlescent Embossing Powder (WOW! Embossing)

• Chrysanthemum stamps, Big Words stamps (WOW! Embossing)

• Embossing ink (Versamark)

Silver Jewel Dazzles (Hot Off The Press/Paper Wishes)

• Cardstock: Black, white, pink

• Pink metallic ribbon

• Foam tape

• Heat tool

• 5″ x 6 1/2″ blank white card

Stamping with Pearlescent Embossing Powders, how to do it—

1. Use the embossing ink to stamp the Chrysanthemum image on black cardstock. Sprinkle with red pearlescent powder, tap off the excess and heat-set.

2. Trim the embossed piece and mat on white cardstock. Mat again on pink, leaving about a 1/2″ border at the bottom. Mat again on black. Glue the piece to the front of the card.

3. Stamp and emboss “love you” with red pearlescent powder on black cardstock. Mat on pink, then white cardstock and secure to the card front with foam tape. Tie a bow in pink ribbon and glue as shown.

4. Add silver stickers to the center of the flowers as shown.
