Washi Tape Tuesday: Valentines Heart Washi Tape Card

Welcome to Washi Tape Tuesday! Love washi tape? (Or maybe you have a stash that you want to put to use?) Then join me for tips, techniques and ideas for adding washi tape to your handmade cards! 

I’m in a Valentines-y mood these days, it seems! This simple heart design would make a great card for any day of the year, though—don’t you think?

To make the heart shape, you’ll probably want a template or stencil of some sort. I went old-school and drew my own heart shape the same way I did when I was a little girl: Just fold a piece of scrap paper in half, then draw one half of a heart along the fold. Cut out, unfold and voila—your heart shape! Just use that as a pattern for cutting out the shape from the washi tape cardstock piece.

Valentine’s Heart Washi Tape Card, what you need:

• Washi tape: Red patchwork, pink solid (MT), red dot (Doodlebug)

• Scrap of sheet music

• White cardstock

• Red baker’s twine

• Foam tape

• Red button

• Heart shape to use as template

• Cream blank card

Valentine’s Heart Washi Tape Card, how to make it:

1) Apply strips of washi tape horizontally across a piece of white cardstock. Leave white showing between the tapes. Add a 1/2″-wide strip of sheet music for variety.

2) Cut a heart from the washi tape cardstock.

3) Glue a 1/2″-wide piece of sheet music along the left side of the cream card blank. Add strips of washi tape as shown, then use foam tape to adhere the heart slightly overlapping the border on the card.

4) Tie a bow in baker’s twine and glue to the card front. Glue a small red button on top.
