Pretty, pastel colors for springtime cardmaking! This week’s batch of handmade cards has soft florals and sweet (steampunk!) butterfly accents.
The supplies I’m using for today’s cards are from Uniquely Creative, an Australian company:
- Colour Crush 6″x6″ patterned papers
- Colour Crush Paper Embellishments
- Colour Crush Vellum Embellishments
- Steampunk For Everyone Dies (for the butterfly)
- Script Dazzles stickers
- 10 Square & Scalloped Cutting Dies
For the card above, I’m also using black dye based ink and a waterbrush to splatter black ink onto the pastel patterned paper for a bit of contrast. Have a look—

First, choose a dye-based ink pad. I’m using Hunkydory’s Charcoal.

Press the inkpad onto your craft mat.

Add water and make a wash, using your waterbrush or a paintbrush.

Hold the brush perpendicular to your surface and tap the barrel with your other hand, splattering the watery ink onto your surface. Start with a light touch and add more splatters as you wish. If it’s your first time, practice on scrap paper! Remember, the more water you use, the more diluted the ink color will be.

I applied some gorgeous vellum stickers on top of the splattered cardstock, and then added the floral die cuts. Then I added a butterfly die cut—this is from the Steampunk For Everyone Die collection, and I really like how the image can go from distressed to pretty and pastel!

Here I’ve cut away a portion of just the front panel of the card front, then used one edge of the largest scalloped square dies to make a scalloped edge on the card. Here’s how:

Simply place the edge of the die along the edge of the front panel and run only that through your die-cutting machine. Voila—a scalloped edge!

The card focal is a label die cut from white cardstock, splattered with black ink, then some vellum stickers placed on top. The Hugs sticker is a Dazzle.

And finally, a super-simple card, again using a die from the 8 Labels die set, simply foam-taped onto a piece of patterned cardstock as a background. There are two vellum stickers tucked underneath, and then there’s that beautiful butterfly and a paper ephemera message underneath.
And finally… what are you doing this month (it’s May!!!)? Why not join me at BellaCon? I’m teaching a class using this very same butterfly die, but for a steampunk-style trio of projects. You can sign up here and check out the class kit too. For the event, you can either sign up with this link to get the Swag Option or this one for the non-Swag choice.
Hope to see you there!
