Mixed Media Stamperia Rice Paper Mini Folder

Hi friends! Today I want to share an easy mini-folder project featuring a new obsession for me: Rice paper!

Rice paper is something like a cross between mulberry paper and tissue paper. It’s patterned with beautiful images and designs, slightly translucent and perfect for layering. You can cut it with scissors—you can also wet it with a damp brush, then tear for a feathered edge. Stamperia has some gorgeous designs, which I used for this mini envelope.

Like traditional decoupage, you can use white glue to adhere rice paper to your surface. I add a bit of water to my glue to thin it out a bit, then brush it onto the surface. Place the rice paper on top and smooth. The great thing? Unlike collaging with decoupage paper or tissue paper, there’s virtually no issue with air bubbles or stray wrinkles. Yay!

Here’s a look at the inside of the envelope:

Supplies I used:

Here’s how to make it:

Die cut the folder and pockets from white card. Brayer-paint the cardstock with Peony Blush, then a bit of Desert Sand, then some White Linen. First do the outside, then when that’s dry, flip the cardstock over and brayer the other side.

Once the cardstock is totally dry, fold it up and secure with strong double-sided tape. Add the rice paper. I used Pressed Flowers as the background on the front and back. I edged the folder with gold metallic ink and added a circle scallop die as a focal. The heart is from the Heart Frames collection—I painted a piece of white cardstock with Peony Blush and White Linen, then glued the rice paper on top and just trimmed away the heart. This has been edged with Balmy Night. I also edged the folder itself with Balmy Night.

For the front of the folder, I just added the layered scallop and a Dazzle sentiment.

The mini envelope is the perfect place for tucking in small, flat gifts like a gift card, money gift, bit of jewelry, a fancy teabag or chocolate. You can also use it for a message or scrapbook journaling!
