{Project} Wednesday: Using Paint to Emboss a Card Background

Hey, it’s our last week of August—next week I’ll be back with a new Studio SN video!

Today’s card features acrylic paint as an embossing medium. Take a look at the center section of this card front—that splash of metallic color just underneath the stamped focal is gold embossing powder. I didn’t use embossing ink…instead, I brayered a layer of acrylic paint, then sprinkled on embossing powder and heat-set as normal. It gives me texture and shine, but the random way the paint is applied gives a fabulous edging I just couldn’t get with embossing ink.

Using Paint to Emboss a Card Background, what you need—

Vanilla Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint (PaperArtsy)

Eclectica ESN15 stamp set (PaperArtsy)

– Gold Pearl Regular embossing powder (WOW! Embossing)

Butter chalk ink (Clearsnap)

– Dove Grey inkpad (StazOn)

– Black inkpad (Versafine)

– Sheet music

– Mini brayer

– Heat tool

– Green ribbon

– Copper brads

– Cardstock: kraft, black, white, brown

Using Paint to Emboss a Card Background, how to do it—

1. Lightly brayer a piece of white cardstock with butter ink, allowing the edges to remain white. Use grey ink to stamp the text and circle image randomly on the background.

2. Brayer the center with a layer of vanilla paint, then immediately sprinkle with gold embossing powder. You don’t want to glop on the paint—instead, apply just enough for the embossing powder to have something stick to. Tap off the excess and heat-set.

3. Brayer a piece of sheet music with butter, then glue to the bottom of the embossed cardstock. Ink the edges with vanilla paint (I used my finger), then apply embossing powder. Tap off the excess and heat-set. Add brads at each corner.

4. Stamp the sentiment on white cardstock, mat on black, kraft and brown and glue to the right side of the card center.

5. Tie a knot in green ribbon and wrap diagonally across the panel.

6. Glue a wide strip of black card vertically across the card front, then glue the embossed panel in the center.

Hope you enjoyed today’s card! See you again next month with a new Project Wednesday card and video!
