{Project} Wednesday: Water Spatter Embossing Technique

Today on Studio SN: Create a Water Spatter Heat Embossed Card!

Sara Naumann water spatter card

Lately I’ve been on a real tear with embossing powders and having a lot of fun experimenting! This week I thought I’d try mixing the powder with water to see what would happen. The result is a super-fun texture effect with lots of shimmer and shine!

Here’s what you need:

– WOW embossing powders: Primary Purple Orchid Regular, Metallic Gold Sparkle. UK peeps, you can find more at the WOW website; those in the US can check their US site.

– Glossy white cardstock

– Water spritzer

– Stipple brush (mine is Faber-Castell)

– Small palette or craft sheet

– Patterned papers: Mirage (Hot Off The Press)

Big Greetings Dazzles (Hot Off The Press)

– Embossing tool

– Black, white cardstock

– Yellow ribbon

– Purple silk flowers, purple brad

– Blank card

Here’s how to do it:

1. Spritz water onto a plastic palette and mix in the purple embossing powder. Load the stipple brush and spatter onto the white cardstock. Repeat with gold.

2. Heat set the cardstock.

3. Mat the embossed piece on black cardstock. Add a Dazzle sticker, first backing the “o” with white before adhering to the embossed piece.

4. Cover the card front with black. Cut a piece of yellow patterned paper slightly smaller, then glue to the card front. Mat the embossed piece on black floral paper and tie with yellow ribbon. Glue to the card front and add flowers.

Couldn’t be easier! What’s more—you could totally adapt this to using bright embossing powder on dark card, or stick with all metallics.
