Technique of the Month: Watercoloring with Color Burst and PaperArtsy

Happy March to you! This month on Studio SN on You Tube: we’re Watercoloring with Color Burst and PaperArtsy stamps! Take a look at this month’s video, and be sure to keep reading for step-by-step instructions on how to create this project.

Color Burst is a microfine powder, which can be used with water to create some really beautiful effects. Here we’re going to use them to paint in a stamped, heat-embossed image—it’s a great way to add color, style and dimension to your cards. (For a fun another fun video, check out Backgrounds with Color Burst.)

Watercoloring with Color Burst, how to make it—

  1. Stamp the flower stalk onto white card with Versamark, sprinkle with embossing powder and tap off excess. Repeat to stamp the flower. Use a dry paintbrush to remove excess embossing powder. Heat set.
  2. Tap a very tiny amount of each Color Burst color onto the craft sheet. Add water to each color to create a watery wash. (I use a small plastic pipette to dispense the water.)
  3. Use a fine tip paintbrush to color the flower with yellow. Repeat to color the stalk with green. Add touches of yellow to the tips of the stalk.
  4. Load the paintbrush with watery yellow and green. Hold it a few inches away from the stamped image and tap the handle of the brush to spatter the color. Let the piece dry. You can always go back and add more watery color if you wish.
  5. Mat the piece on medium green cardstock, then glue to a bright green card base, adding a small border of brown. Wrap with green ribbon and add rhinestones to the flower.
