Altenew Cardmaking Workshop in the UK: Recap

Hello! I’m just now back from a really fun business trip to the UK for The One Big Show. This is a business conference for the craft industry, with seminars and networking sessions and a great chance to meet up with people I haven’t seen since the last trade event in February.

One really cool benefit to being in the country was attending an all-day workshop hosted by Altenew. Altenew is based in New York, so they added an extra day to their business trip in order to teach a class for those not in the craft industry. Yes, a full day of stamping, inking, coloring and cardmaking. Sign me up!

First, we had cardmaking with Lydia Evans, then scrabooking with Lilith Eeckels. You probably know them both from Facebook Live sessions. We were also learned cardmaking from Tasnim Ahmed, the company President.

If you ever get a chance to join an Altenew event like this, I highly recommend it. The day was an absolute blast, and the teachers were all really well-organized, informative and inspirational. In the end, we left with 6 cards and a scrapbook page…plus I learned loads of tips from the teachers and got to use some brand-new stamps. And not least, the chance to be in a room full of other creative people—well, that just can’t beat, can it?

Here are a few bits from the projects we made that day—

It’s official: Teal Cave and Aqualicious are my new favorite colors.
Layered stamping, the classic Altenew look of dimensional colors.

Lovely ink layering, this time with the help of a very clever template.
Coloring with alcohol markers (later highlighting with gold pen).
Painty ink coloring!
Tone-on-tone leaf stamping. (*swoon*)
They took instant photos of us in groups so we could have a photo for our scrapbook pages. This is me with Lilith, Tasnim and Lydia.
Brilliant way to create a background with squares of ink! (Scrapbook page background, idea by Lilith.)
Love this idea of masking out a section of the card, then creating borders with cut strips of cardstock.
