Happy Father’s Day Toolbox Card

Alten

I’m using the Altenew Alcohol Markers Set A for this project. I will happily confess I am not a colorist who can do beautiful shading and highlighting with pens. I’m a pretty basic color-er! Most of the time I use the markers to get bright, one-dimensional color…but if I want to add some dimension, I do a couple of things:

1. Choose 3 shades of a color: Light, medium and dark. I use the lightest color to basecoat the image, coloring it all in. Then I use the medium color to “sideline” the image and the dark color to accent.

2. I color the most with the lightest color, a bit less with the medium, and a tiny bit with the dark.

3. By “sidelining” I mean I use the medium color to color along the sides of the lines on the image.

4. I then go back and rework to blend between the basecoat and sideline with the lightest color. I use a circular motion for this.

Here’s how I made this card:
Use Permanent Black to stamp the tool box with the “this one’s for you” sentiment from the Best Dad stamp set  on smooth white card. Stamp the tape measure and hammer. Color all three images first with G702 Frayed Leaf, then color along the lines (what I called “sidelining”) with G715 Forest Glades. Accent with G554 Evergreen.

Use the Best Dad cutting dies to cut out all three images.

If you want to insert a gift card or small note, cut a slit along the toolbox line with a craft knife. Tuck in the hammer and tape measure. Tape them in place on the back.

Stamp Happy Father’s Day on white card. Mount a strip of green cardstock on brown, then glue at the top. Mount on brown. Wrap with twine. Glue to the front of a kraft card base.

Use foam tape to secure the toolbox to the card front; when applying the foam tape be sure to allow for a gift card to slide in and out.

Best Dad Mug Card

Here I’m using the Altenew Alcohol Markers Set A as well as two of my favorite ink pads: Dark Chocolate and Ocean Waves.

Press Ocean Waves on a craft sheet and mist with water. Brayer the color out so you have an inky puddle a few inches in diameter. Press a piece of white cardstock into the inky puddle and lift. Clean up the ink, then repeat to press Dark Chocolate onto the craft sheet. Mist, then use a waterbrush or paintbrush to spatter onto the cardstock. Edge with Ocean Waves, then glue on white and brown.

Use Dark Chocolate to stamp the mug on white cardstock. Sideline with B201 Sea Glass. Die cut.

Use Dark Chocolate to stamp the “a father’s love is priceless” sentiment on a strip of white cardstock. Ink the edges with Ocean Waves and glue to the background. Add the mug with foam tape. Glue to the card front.

I Love You Roses Card

Sara Naumann Altenew Facebook Live Father's Day and Mother's Day cards

For this card, I’m using the Painted Rose stamps, which is probably one of the very first Altenew stamps I ever got! I love this set and I’m constantly discovering new ways to use it. This time, I’m combining two ink colors—Lavender Fields and Warm Sunshine—that I put together by accident…but it turns out I really like the effect. (Let’s hear it for happy accidents!)

Note: In this case, it’s not necessary but it is helpful to use a stamp positioner. I love my MISTI for this…it just makes it so much easier to get the layering done properly.

Use Lavender Fields to stamp the detail portion of the rose twice on white cardstock. Stamp the middle layer on top with Warm Sunshine. Stamp the leaves with Frayed Leaf.

Stamp the words with Caramel Toffee.

Tear the bottom edge of the piece and mount on teal cardstock. Wrap with gold embroidery thread. Mount again on brown card and glue to the card front. Add a bow.

Thanks again for joining me here—and a big thank you to Altenew for your generosity and thoughtfulness with the Celebrating Parents Card Drive and donation to the Food Bank. Please be sure to check their website for more details.

Enjoy!
