Simple Silhouette Stamping with Eclectica ESN64 Birds—how to mask off a word!

Today I have a few new card projects to share with you—these are cards using my new Eclectica ESN63 stamp set from PaperArtsy. These simple silhouette birds make easy card focals,…as you can see, I’ve just stamped them onto patterned paper!

The patterned paper I’m using is from my stash of 49 and Market collections. This one is Wedgewood.

I’ve stamped the birds with Altenew’s Obsidian Black pigment ink, and covered it with WOW’s Clear Embossing powder. The embossing is totally optional, but I love how it makes the image raised and dimensional.

You’ll notice at the top left side of the card, the word “gather”. This word is actually part of a larger collage image, and I’ve simply masked off the rest of the collage before stamping. Let’s take a look.

Here’s the stamp set— “gather” is at the bottom of the scripty bird collage. If you want just the word, it’s simple!

Step 1: Position your stamp on the cardstock, if you’re using a MISTI or other stamp posititioner.

Step 2: Grab a piece of masking tape or washi tape…. any type of low-tack tape will do.

Step 3: Place the tape over the area you do not want to be stamped. You don’t have to cover the whole image, just the area closest to the word or image you DO want to stamp.

Step 4: You may find small portions of the stamp require another piece of tape.

Step 5: Just ink up the area you want to stamp. It’s okay if some ink gets on the tape.

Step 6: This is the most important step, LOL (ask me how I know)—remove the tape before you stamp.

Step 7: Stamp as you normally would!

And voila—there you go!

Here’s another card idea, where I stamped the word “gather” onto a paper label.

Here’s another card idea with our little birdies. This isn’t showing any masking, but just a simple card focal on a fold-back card.

I hope you enjoyed these card examples! I’ll be back again after the Christmas holidays, with more ideas featuring new stencils and stenciling techniques. In the meantime, Happy Holidays to you and I’ll see you again soon!
