Brayer Embossed Backgrounds with Stamping

Creating a brayer-embossed card background is one of the easiest ways to add instant texture and color to your projects! Have a look at the photos below, and be sure to check out the how-to video on Facebook.

Have a look at the background of my card: The yellow is embossing powder and the leaves have been paint-stamped directly on top.

(Tip: I found this technique works best with a silhouette-style stamp design and a MISTI.)

Simply roll your brayer across the embossing inkpad, then onto white cardstock… then add embossing powder and heat-set. You’ll have the color of the powder contrasting with the white of your card, plus texture too.

I first brayer-embossed the background with Sunflower embossing powder from the Parc Floral Trio from WOW! Embossing. After heat-setting, I added a combination of Limelight and Pine Grove Fresco Finish paints from PaperArtsy to stamp the leaves from the Eclectica ESN34 stamp set. Using a MISTI makes it easy to re-stamp if you wish. Then, let the paint dry and you’re ready to use it as a background. The focal bird has been stamped with Limelight and Pine Grove too, then immediately covered with Clear Gloss powder and heat-set for a glossy look.

Supplies: PaperArtsy stamps and paints are available at your local stamp stores. Sunflower embossing powder is in the Parc Floral trio from WOW! Embossing. It’s available here in the US, and here in the UK, as is the Clear Gloss.
