Grunge Paste Tinted Stenciling: Happy Birthday Card

Hi friends! I love a good stenciled background, and Grunge Paste—the texture paste from PaperArtsy—is a perfect medium for stenciling. It comes as a neutral bone color, so it can be used as is, or tinted with other mediums like acrylic paint.

Products: The sentiment is from Eclectica ESN37 (available at Frantic Stamper in the US and Stampers Grove in the UK) and the stencil is PS178 (available at Frantic Stamper in the US and Stampers Grove in the UK). Paint is Bora Bora and Zesty Zing. Please check your local retailers for these items.

The background is white cardstock—I like PaperArtsy’s Smoothy, which is a sturdy and smooth white card. I brayer-painted with Zesty Zing, leaving some areas white, then stenciled the Grunge Paste tinted with Bora Bora paint.

To do this, simply decant a bit of Grunge Paste onto your craft mat. (Be sure to close the jar of Grunge Paste since the medium dries quickly—great for your projects but not for your jar of paste.) Add a tiny bit of paint to the craft mat and use a palette knife to mix the two. You don’t want a lot of paint as it will compromise the consistency of the paste.

I work in a bit of the paint and usually don’t mix in all of it. Blend until you have the color you want, keeping in mind the consistency.

I use my finger to apply the paste through the stencil.

Then, be sure to clean your stencil thoroughly and wait a few minutes for the paste to dry on your cardstock!

For the rest of the card, I’ve added a simple stamped birthday message die-cut into layered squares, plus a black and white check ribbon. Super simple, yet lots of fun with texture and dimension!

Enjoy!
