{Project} Wednesday: Painted Card Backgrounds with Dylusions

Happy Wednesday! Today I’ve got a fun, easy painted card for you! Even better? The process is super easy and low-mess. No brushes needed, either!

Dylusions painted card featuring Visible Image stamp

The paint I’m using for my blue swirly background is Dylusions from Ranger. While this painting technique works with any acrylic paint, I like Dylusions because the colors are so bright and vivid, the paint is nice consistency (not too thick, not too watery) and it dries really fast. Also, the wide-mouth jar makes it easy to just dip the palette knife in, pick up the paint, and apply it to the cardstock. You’ll use a light application of paint—this is really just about adding bright color and texture to the background, rather than covering the cardstock completely. Think of the application as a frosting-type of motion.

(If you don’t have a palette knife, a plastic knife will also do the trick!)

Painted Card Backgrounds with Dylusions, what you need—

– Blue acrylic paint: London Blue Dylusions Paint from Ranger

Stay Strong stamp: Visible Image

– Black ink

– Cardstock: White, pink, yellow

– Palette knife

– Yellow ribbons, yellow baker’s twine

– Foam tape

– 5″ x 7″ blank white card

Painted Card Backgrounds with Dylusions, how to make it—

1. Cut a 4″-wide piece of white cardstock. Dip the palette knife into the blue paint, then apply in a frosting motion in the center of the cardstock. Let dry.

2. Mat the top and bottom edges of the painted piece on yellow, then pink cardstock. Glue to the card front, trimming the edges off at the sides.

3. Wrap the front panel of the card with yellow grosgrain ribbon, securing the ends to the front of the card. Wrap with baker’s twine.

4. Stamp the sentiment with black ink on white cardstock. Trim closely, then mat on pink. Use foam tape to secure the stamped sentiment to the card front. Tie a bow in sheer yellow ribbon and glue as shown.

And yes—Visible Image is a British stamp company. I love their edgy designs and the quality of the stamps is superb. If you live outside the UK, you can also find them online and some of their designs at Create and Craft.
