Vintage Stamped Birdie Tags with PaperArtsy Eclectica ESN66 + Fresco Finish Paints

This week I’ve been stamping with acrylic paint as I’m still working on de-stashing my (very full) craft room. I found a big pile of manila tags and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for using up some bits of washi tape, sheet music and scrap cardstock, so I pulled out my PaperArtsy Eclectica ESN66 stamps and some Fresco Finish chalk acrylic paints and got to playing!

Here’s the first tag—

This easy-collage stamped tag is a lot of fun to make! Here’s another:

Both tags feature a simple stamping technique, using acrylic paint. Let’s take a look at the process, for the Sweet Tag above.

First, I collaged the manila tag. I brayered the tag lightly with Chantilly paint; when that was dry, I splattered watery Pea Coat and edged the tag with Gold Metallic paint. When it was all dry, I added washi tape and old paper snippets.

(Plus a metal bit from my embellishments stash.)

Then I stamped the bird from Eclectica ESN66 onto manila cardstock, using Truffle paint to stamp with. Just load up a bit of kitchen sponge with the paint, and tap it gently onto the stamp.

As soon as you’ve stamped, cover the image with clear embossing powder—this makes it easy to paint in the image afterwards.

I used watery Weathered Copper, blotted with a damp baby wipe for a really soft look.

I also added some rub-ons from 49 and Market.

Then I die-cut the piece and added it to the collaged tag—

Here’s another look at the tag:

For my second tag, I followed the same process, with a different bird image—

I stamped the bird from ESN66 onto manila cardstock, using a combination of Pea Coat, lightened with Truffle paint.

I loaded a piece of a kitchen sponge with a bit of both colors, then gently applied it to my stamp. Immediately afterwards, I covered it with clear embossing powder and heat-set, so I could paint it in.

I painted it in with watery Truffle, blotting the excess so the painted effect is really soft.

After the paint was dry, I added a rub-on word from 49 and Market.

The tag was also painted and splattered with Chantilly and Pea Coat, and embellished with scrap sheet music and some washi tape.

Here’s another look—

For both tag tops, I used some metal accents I have in my stash, and a bit of hemp twine. I think either of these tags could be tied onto a package or tucked inside an envelope with a thoughtful message. Even better, they are so easy and fun to make, requiring just a few bits and pieces from your stash.

All stamps and acrylic paints are available from PaperArtsy retailers. Please do have a look on their website for a complete listing!
