Washi Tape Tuesday: Love and Valentines Washi Tape Card

Welcome to Washi Tape Tuesday! Love washi tape? (Or maybe you have a stash that you want to put to use?) Then join me for tips, techniques and ideas for adding washi tape to your handmade cards!

Back this week with another easy washi tape card! While I was in the US over Christmas, I picked up some new patterned and solid washi tapes, and just had to put them right to use.

Valentine’s Day is coming up next month and I thought I’d pair some untraditional colors on this card—pink and red are pretty, but I wanted to try this light, pastel combination for a different look. The heart stamp is heat-embossed with gold to match the gold in the striped washi tape, and to coordinate with that strip of gold hammered paper that runs vertically. (I’ve been hanging onto that strip of gold paper for forever and it feels so good to finally have a place for it!)

Love and Valentines Washi Tape Card, what you need:

Solid and patterned washi tapes: MT

Love and Heart small stamps: Hot Off The Press/Paper Wishes

– Book paper

– White acrylic paint

Gold hammered paper: Hot Off The Press/Paper Wishes

– Gold Pearl Embossing Powder: WOW Embossing Powder

– Embossing inkpad: Versamark

– Black inkpad

– Heat tool

– Green silk ribbon

– 7/8″ circle punch

– Foam tape

Love and Valentines Washi Tape Card, how to make it:

1. Apply white acrylic paint onto a piece of book paper, allowing some of the text to show through. Let dry, then place alternating strips of washi tape horizontally. Tear the left side of the book paper.

2. Cut a narrow strip of gold hammered paper and glue vertically to the card front. Glue the book paper piece in the center.

3. Stamp and emboss the heart onto white-painted book paper; cut out and attach to the card front with several layers of foam tape. Stamp “love” with black on white-painted book paper and punch into a circle. Glue overlapping the heart.

4. Tie a bow in green ribbon and glue as shown.

So easy! And you could swap out the colors for a more traditional red or pink Valentine if you wanted, or use this design for an everyday “I love you” card. Enjoy!
