Resin Bubbles: Embracing “Mistakes”

Resin bubbles! They’re usually one of the biggest issues when working with two-part resin epoxy—but sometimes, I think they actually make a piece more interesting.

This bracelet, for example. It features a washi tape background nested inside a copper bezel. When I poured in the resin, I noticed it had lots and lots and lots of very fine bubbles. I also noticed that the bubbles, because they were so fine and covered the piece completely, actually added to the overall vintage, mixed-media effect. So I left them in and when the piece cured, I found I really liked the look!

Note: BUT, if you want to remove bubbles, point a straw in the direction of the piece, and blow gently through it. The warm air will help pop the bubbles. With large or really stubborn bubbles, I use a toothpick to guide them to the edge of the piece, then pierce them against the edge of the bezel or mould.

To watch the demo of the resin pouring, you can check out my Facebook Live here. I talk a bit more about using washi tape with bezels, and demonstrate measuring, mixing and pouring ArtResin.

Just a note about the design of the piece—the bezel is the Rose Gold Medium Rectangle from Ranger. It measures approximately 4.7×1.2cm, so designing with it horizontally makes for a perfect bracelet. It can also work vertically as a pendant, bag charm or key fob. I connected a piece of silver chain to the loops with pinch bails. I made a turquoise bead with Sea Mist embossing powder and a European- style faceted bead mould and I nested it between two large silver jump rings and a tiny bit of chain.

That’s it—a really simple and easy design and one I think can easily be adapted to your own stash of washi tapes, bezels and findings. And I hope it’s given you a new perspective on those little air bubbles—whether you decide to remove them, or embrace them!
